The Contribution of Ibn Qayyim al-Jawziyya to Salafi Sufism

This article aims to explore the Ibn Qayyim al-Jawziyya’s original views on Sufism. is regarded as an authority in Salafi circles who reject Sufism a legitimate representation of Islam, especially its philosophical orientation. uses literature research model reach finding that understood moral system and part science Islamic morality. purify soul prepare it for return God along path love. The basis revised by was Qur’ān, Sunnah, traditions companions, ideas Taymiyya, teachings words early Sufi masters. strongly adhered orthodox principles scholarship later dubbed Salafism, terms prioritizing shari‘a over reason rejecting esoteric interpretation (ta’wīl). For Qayyim, philosophers were misled overly relying ta’wīl disregarding role reason. His approach perform objective evaluation circulating at his time. Instead joining either side, side those condemned unlawful innovation (bid‘a) or accepted uncritically, chose conduct extensive review practices, elements he found objectionable accepting others commendable.
